My first Foray into Magic and Mystery
A review of Yasmine Galenorn’s Witchling
By
Linda Lafaire

I am
an avid book reader and I mostly stick to Mystery and Detective novels. My
favorite place to buy books is
Booksamillion.com. They have a great selection
and I can browse books much easier then going to the local big chain.
This past November, I was looking for new books when the title
Witchling, by Yasmine Galenorn, came up. I frowned and looked puzzled as to why this book would
come up in the Mystery and Detective section. Intrigued now, I open up the title
and read the synopsis :
Meet the D'Artigo sisters, Delilah, Menolly, and Camille: half-human,
half-faerie, they're savvy--and sexy--operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence
Agency, but their mixed-blood heritage short-circuits their talents at all the
wrong times.
Now, being a fan of
Charmed (the first three seasons of it anyway), I
said why not and added it to my shopping cart.
The premise of the book is three sisters living in Seattle,
Washington. One of the Otherworlders is murdered and the chief suspect is Shadow
Wing the leader of the Subterranean Realms. The sisters, along with some help
including a FBW (Full Blooded Human) are assigned to keep Shadow Wing and his
minions from killing all humankind and taking over Earth along with Otherworld.
There is one big catch…the sisters magic doesn’t always cooperate when they want
it to.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how good this book
actually was. Written in the first person with Camille’s point of view gives
great insight to the sisters, their friends, and the various characters they
encounter along the way. There are some surprisingly humorous events in the book
as well as wonderful fantasy characters and my favorite, a good mystery. The
characters are well defined and very witty in their dialogue. The action scenes
are detailed, action-packed and spread thoughout the book. There is also some
romance in the book just to add a little spice to the story.
The chapters flow evenly and the great storytelling makes
Witchling a fast read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes
Mystery, Fantasy, and to anyone who wants to broaden their horizons with some
great magic. There will be a sequel coming out in June of this year with
Delilah’s POV used. The title will be Changeling.
