In the Canadian sci-fi musical Bang Bang Baby!, Jane Levy is Stepphy, a small town teenager with big dreams.  Stepphy wants to become a singing star, but her controlling alcoholic father (Peter Stormare) has other ideas.  Visiting rock star Bobby Shore (Justin Chatwin) promises to make those dreams come true, but just when Stepphy thinks she’s found her ticket out of Lonely Arms, a chemical leak at the local factory begins turning the townsfolk into mutant beings.

Written and directed by Jeffrey St. Jules, the music and songs of Bang Bang Baby! pay homage to the classic science fiction horror films of the ‘50s and ‘60s.  The songs are interspersed by musical score composed by Darren Fung (known for his work on Far, Lost Years and Just Buried).  All of the songs are performed by the film’s actors accompanied by Rich Pell and The Vertigosound Orchestra (with the exception of Darling Baby Girl by Peter Stormare).

As I listened to the Bang Bang Baby! Soundtrack, I was reminded of Little Shop of Horrors – the humorous songs and over the top love songs interspersed with just the right amount of horror made for an excellent combination.   Bang Bang Baby! may be the new Little Shop of Horrors – I found myself laughing at the songs and identifying tracks in which sci-fi and horror ruled.  I had a great time listening to this soundtrack and would love to see the actual film.
