When I received The Singing Accountant: Volume 2: Beyond the Sea, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  The album boasted well-known songs and I had heard of Keith Ferreira before – he often appears on Silva Screen Records film music compilations – but who was The Singing Accountant?  I tried looking him up…tried to get some information about him, like why was he called The Singing Accountant, for one thing.  But I couldn’t find anything…just songs…no biography anywhere.  There was nothing for it but to listen to the album and discover who this man was for myself.

The Singing Accountant: Volume 2: Beyond the Sea features ten popular movie tracks and they are all performed well by Keith Ferreira.  The man has an indisputably beautiful voice, without a doubt.  I laughed when I first started listening to the album – the first track is The Love Boat, a song I often joke about and imitate.  I found myself singing along to a rendition of The Love Boat that sounded amazingly like the original.  Following this song are a number of well-known Disney favorites like Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat and The Bear Necessities, all sung quite like the originals I remembered from my youth.  Also on the album were some other movie and television staples like Born Free, The Impossible Dream and Maybe Tomorrow.

The songs are all well-performed…most performed exactly like the originals.  I enjoyed the album, but would have liked to see The Singing Accountant perform his own versions of the songs rather than attempting to recreate other people’s versions.  Maybe that is Ferreira’s gimmick – that he can mimic other performances of film music favorites.  I would like to see what this singer could do outside of the genre.  Perhaps the third volume of The Singing Accountant albums should contain original tracks so we can see what Keith Ferreira can do with songs no one else has ever performed before.

Until then, I can honestly say that I had a lot of fun listening and singing along with The Singing Accountant: Volume 2: Beyond the Sea.  The song selection was fun, featuring songs I knew rather well.  I found this album much more enjoyable than the original album in the series and can’t help but wonder what is next for The Singing Accountant.
