Catwoman has become somewhat of an infamous villainess in the Batman universe.  For one thing, no other character heroine or villainous has had such an impact on Batman’s life.  It is rare for such a morally intense superhero to lose his heart to someone he is sworn to bring to justice, but somehow Catwoman has managed to snare Batman’s heart in what is becoming a love/hate relationship.

Catwoman: The Life and Times of a Feline Fatale, by Suzan Colón, is a tongue-in-cheek look into the life of the famous cat burglar who managed to find her way into Batman’s heart.  The fact that the book contains an introduction by Adam West gives the reader an idea as to just how campy this book is going to be.   Much of the tale of Catwoman is told by Catwoman herself, beginning with Chapter One – Nine Lives or How I Became a Kitten with a Whip.  This is a biographical chapter discussing the many incarnations of Catwoman since her first appearance in 1940.  Following chapters deal with Catwoman’s fashion sense, psychological make-up, tools of the trade, love life and more.  Every chapter is rich with pictures from the Batman comic strips, television series, movies, comic books and more.  The strips serve to illustrate the ideas and ideals of the cat burglar whose back story is a constantly evolving subject.

Catwoman: The Life and Times of a Feline Fatale is over 140 pages of pure unadulterated fun.  Sure, you do get to learn a thing about Batman’s favorite criminal, but most of the time you find yourself laughing when reading things like Arkham’s psychoanalysis of Catwoman, her daily calendar entries, and her ideas about fashion.  This is a great book for Catwoman fans everywhere.  However, at the regular price of $19.00 U.S., some might find it a tad bit on the pricey side.  Thrifty people like myself can pick this book up at most Barnes & Noble for a much more wallet-friendly price.
