Originally released on CD in 1995, Celebrate Broadway: Volume 10: Best Musicals! is a compilation of hit tunes from Broadway musicals that have received Tony Awards for Best Musical.  Masterworks Broadway released a digital download version of the original CD on December 28, 2010.  I enjoyed Celebrate Broadway: Volume 8: Duets, but wasn’t very happy with Volume 9, so when I received Volume 10 of the Celebrate Broadway series, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

Celebrate Broadway: Volume 10: Best Musicals! contains songs from such hit musicals as Fiddler on the Roof, 42nd Street, Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd, The King and I and more.  Songs featured include Send in the Clowns, A Little Priest, If I Were A Rich Man, Honeysuckle Rose, Hello, Dolly!, Brotherhood of Man and more performed by such esteemed artists as Angela Lansbury, Glenn Close, Yul Brynner, Zero Mostel, Nell Carter and more.

Now this is what I’m talking about!  I enjoyed Volume 8 of this series, but I absolutely loved Volume 10!  These are songs I readily recognized, performed by some of the greatest Broadway artists of our time.  From the opening number, the Overture to 42nd Street, I found myself smiling.  By track 2, If I Were a Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof performed by Zero Mostel, I was singing along.  A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd as performed by Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou had me chuckling along with the main characters.  When the CD finished, I played it again…and again.

The music found on Celebrate Broadway: Volume 10: Best Musicals! represents some of the best songs ever created for a Broadway musical.  It provides the listener with just the right mix of fun songs, ballads, dance music and more.  This album is a must have for any fan of Broadway musicals!  I am quite happy to discover that the ninth volume of this series was not indicative of horrible things to come in this series.  Listening to Celebrate Broadway: Volume 10: Best Musicals! provided me with some of the most fun I have ever had when listening to a compilation of songs.  I am overjoyed to add this album to my collection!
