Based on Jim Benton’s books, Dear Dumb Diary is a Hallmark Channel musical starring Emily Alyn Lind as Jamie Kelly, an eleven-year-old with a vivid sense of imagination.  In the film, Jamie’s daydreams about how she believes life ought to be are played out as musical productions .  Unfortunately, real life doesn’t exactly play out as imagined and when Jamie’s diary goes missing, will the bearer of all her hopes, dreams, yearnings and hates fall into the wrong hands?

The songs found on the Dear Dumb Diary Soundtrack tell the story of Jamie Kelly’s life and are incredibly funny.  From the first track, Dear Dumb Diary, we learn that Jamie is a quirky pre-teen with a strong sense of justice and right and wrong.  There are some really cute songs on this album, like Just a Number, an ode to the eighth hottest boy at her school Hudson Rivers (David Mazouz), who is number one in Jamie’s eyes.

I love Dear Future Jamie, a note in Jamie’s diary in which she fantasizes about what she might be like in the future, certain that she will be a successful person in life, love and business.  I found Perfect People of the World to be hysterical.  Who hasn’t felt this way about those people perceived as perfect in the eyes of society?  Also enjoyable is Jamie’s rendition of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi.

The Dear Dumb Diary Soundtrack is one of those albums that is bound to put a smile on your face.  It will take you back to a time in my life when you believed that all was possible if you just imagined it to be so.  It will take you back to a time of innocence and growth.  The Dear Dumb Diary Soundtrack is a really fun listen for kids and adults alike.
