Sylvia Tosun always knew that she was destined for a life in the arts.  Surrounded by such an artistic family, inspiration abounded.  Her maternal grandfather was a well-known composer and concert pianist throughout Europe and his wife gave mandolin lessons in addition to sculpting and painting.  Her paternal grandfather created music as part of his works as a spiritual healer.

As a young child, Sylvia Tosun began to express her interest in music, dance and performing, appearing in theatrical performances, joining a rock band, and touring with the National Choral Society.  Eventually, Tosun earned a scholarship to the famed Julliard School and was accepted into the New York Grand Opera Company.  Since then, it’s been all uphill for Sylvia.  Her debut album, Too Close to the Sun, placed first (out of 33,000 entries) in the USA Songwriting Contest in five different categories.  She’s received numerous awards for her talent, including Talent in Motion Magazine’s Award for Best Singer / Solo Artist and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame BMI Abe Olman Scholarship Award for Excellence in Songwriting.  Most recently, Sylvia Tuson performed at the first concert to ever occur at the Great Wall in Bejing, China.  She shared the stage with music greats Alicia Keyes and Cyndi Lauper and sang in both Mandarin and English.

When you first listen to Sylvia Tosun’s latest CD, Jump In, you are immediately taken in by the beauty of her voice.  At once enchanting and intoxicating, the vocals on this album leave you in awe.  There are several names that come to mind when thinking of how to describe Tosun’s sound.  Think Sarah McLaughlin meets Olivia Newton-John in Xanadu.  The music is just as mesmerizing – a mix of exotic and conventional sound.

And if the music and the vocals are not enough to draw you in, there are the vocals.  Most of the songs are collaborative efforts with Sylvia Tosun.  The lyrics are poignant and heart-felt.  The lyrics blend perfectly with the music and Sylvia’s voice is more than up to the task of making the songs, which speak of angst, loneliness, happiness, and longing, feel as real as if you were experiencing them yourself.  A bonus dance track version of the song Sleepless displays the versatility of the artist who is equally adept at singing fun tracks as she is at belting out a love ballad.

Beauty, talent, versatility – Sylvia Tosun is a woman who has it all!  “The time is here / The time is now / Jump In.”  Immerse yourself in the intoxicating waters of Sylvia Tosun’s Jump In.
