Adventure   Mimi and Maty to the Rescue Book 1: Roger Rat is on the Loose Written by: Brooke Smith Illustrated by: Alli Arnold Reviewed by Natasia Minners               I love Max Thompson and his blog, The PsychoKitty Speaks Out, and visit there daily.  It was on Max’s blog that I learned about this great site set up to help poor, underprivileged homeless animals called Freekibble.com.  The site was started by a young girl named Mimi who wanted to do what she could to help out animals.  I now visit that site daily and try my paw at the trivia questions in an effort to lend a hand feeding the homeless kitties.  One day, I noticed an invitation on the site to read a new book featuring Mimi and a three-legged dog named Maty.  I figured, why not?             In Mimi and Maty to the Rescue: Book 1: Roger Rat is on the Loose, Mimi receives a special notebook in the mail from her Auntie Bee the beekeeper.  Mimi is big on rescuing animals.  Her best buddy, Maty, is a three-legged puppy she rescued from an animal shelter.  She’s rescued a number of animals before Maty and since, including birds, butterflies and chipmunks, but when she received the special notebook, she knew just what to do with it.  She was going to start rescuing animals full time and chronicling her adventures in the notebook.             In this tale, Mimi and Maty are contacted by their friend, George, who has been rat-sitting.  Unfortunately, Roger the Rat has gotten loose and George needs Mimi and Maty’s help to find them before Roger’s human gets home the following day.  Can Mimi and Maty find Roger in the few hours they have left?             This book, written by the real Mimi’s mother, Brooke Smith, is really cute and features some adorably funny drawings by Alli Arnold.  It teaches a great lesson about animal rescue - do your research and know everything about the animal that you can before even making an attempt to rescue an animal and keep a running log of the rescue that you can fall back on later if needed.              Mimi and Maty to the Rescue: Book 1: Roger Rat is on the Loose is a fun and innovative way to teach young humans about rescuing animals.  Every one of the little monsters should read this book before rescuing an animal of their own.  Plus, the illustrations and the fun tale are captivating and quite entertaining.  I’m glad Max directed me to this site and I had the opportunity to read this book.  I’m also happy that reading this adventure helped feed an entire meal to a homeless pet.  I can’t wait to read more Mimi and Maty adventures!   Click on the banner below to find out how to help out shelter kitties today!   For feedback, visit our message board or e-mail the author at natasia@g-pop-net.
