With the release of the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film saga, BuySoundtrax Records has released a new EP dedicated to the films and the Disneyland attraction that inspired them. Music From and Inspired by The Pirates of the Caribbean Saga features eight tracks of music by composers such as Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt, George Bruns and Dominik Hauser.
All of the songs on this EP have been touched by Dominik Hauser in some way or form, either through arrangement, production, composition, or they were performed by Hauser. Hailing from Switzerland, Dominik Hauser earned a Master's Degree in music from the Jazz School St. Gallen. Heavily steeped in the world of jazz, he was been a performer, arranger and composer for numerous jazz projects prior to moving to Los Angeles and studying musical scoring at UCLA. Hauser took his scoring talents to the independent film arena and eventually began scoring for film, theater and video games.
The EP begins with a familiar and exciting track entitled He’s A Pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, the first film in the series. With horn flourishes and musical highs and lows that emulate the movement of a pirate's ship on the open seas, the music on this track is most associated with that of the film series. This is followed by Jack Sparrow’s Theme created by the composer who worked on all four of the film scores, Hans Zimmer.
Then we get to a song from the attraction that inspired it all. Yo Ho! A Pirate's Life for Me is the theme of the Pirates of the Caribbean Disneyland attraction. With music by George Bruns and lyrics by Xavier Atencio, it is not one of the more sophisticated tracks on the album, but it brings us back to the film’s roots.
The rest of the EP features original compositions inspired by the films and the ride created by Dominik Hauser. Listening to these tracks, one could almost picture the pirates at sea in various stages of work and play. Had I not known that these songs were original music inspired by the films, I would have believed them to be tracks from the movie soundtracks themselves. My favorites are Pirates on the Ocean and Pirates to the Gallows, the more swashbuckling of the five original tracks.
Music From and Inspired By The Pirates of the Caribbean Saga makes a fun addition to any Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack collection. Fans of the ride and the movie will surely enjoy this EP, available in digital format everywhere and soon on CD from BuySoundtrax Records.
