            The motion picture Pride & Prejudice, presented by Focus Features, is based on the Jane Austin novel of the same title.  The story is set in 18th century England and revolves around the Bennet family daughters, Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), Jane (Rosamund Pike), Lydia (Jena Malone), Mary (Talulah Riley), and Kitty (Carey Mulligan).  As their mother sets about attempting to find her daughterís husbands and secure their future, Elizabeth, or Lizzie as she is called, yearns for more. 

            The soundtrack, produced by Decca Records, features music composed by Dario Marianelli and preformed by renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet with The English Chamber Orchestra.  Italian composer, Dario Marianelli has composed music for several feature films, such as V for Vendetta and The Brothers Grimm.  His words donít end at theatrical compositions Ė Dario Marianelli has created music for TV dramas, documentaries, theater and more.  He has won BAFTA awards for his work on the films In This World and The Warrior.  Jean-Yves Thibaudet learned how to play the piano at the age of five.  He has performed with major orchestras all over the world and has received several awards for his artistic achievements.  He has recently appeared on soundtracks for Bride of the Wind and Portrait of a Lady.

            The soundtrack of Pride & Prejudice is filled with beautifully composed tracks of classical music.  There are some very powerful and moving pieces, as witnessed in the tracks Leaving Netherfield and Your Hands Are Cold.  There are light-hearted moments to the movie expressed in the rousing and joyous quality of tracks like Canít Slow Down and Meryton Townhall Mrs. Darcy serves two purposes - emotionally moving and serving to tie up loose ends, it brings the soundtrack to a close long before the Credits begin.

            The soundtrack for Pride & Prejudice is classical music at its best.  The beauty of Marianelliís compositions accompanied by the stylistic performance of pianist Thibaudet is a combination not easily scoffed at and worthy of an Oscar nod.  The time setting and the trials and tribulations of the Bennet sisters are perfectly depicted in the moving tracks composed by Marianelli and the performance of Thibaudet.  The Pride & Prejudice soundtrack isnít just tailor made for those who enjoy classical music, but can easily become a favorite for any fan of beautiful musical composition.
