Star Wars: Getaway
If you have been reading the Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi series, you know that the romance between Jaina Solo and Jag Fel has been rekindled and grown stronger than ever. If you have completed the series, you know the fate of the star-crossed lovers. If not, then you should close this review out as I am about to reveal a spoiler. All those still here don't care about the spoiler, right?...Okay, so this new short story featured in Issue 134 of Star Wars Insider is about the next step in Jag and Jaina's relationship.
Star Wars: Getaway, by Christie Golden, is about the couple's adventure while on their honeymoon. Jag wants some quiet time on a sandy beach with a cool drink in his hand, possibly somewhere in the Hapes cluster of worlds. Jaina, however, has planned a hike to the Sky Temple of Karsol ruins on the planet Sakuub. At first, it seems like a harmless little trip, but Jag soon learns that Jaina believes the ruins may be those of an old Jedi Temple. Apparently, she is not the only one. There are others who believe the same thing and are willing to end Jag and Jaina's honeymoon in deadly fashion to obtain what they want from those ruins.
The story by Christie Golden fits in the scheme of things, having just the appropriate amount of banter we expect between Jag and Jaina and the decent amount of action that we expect of all Star Wars novels these days. I wonder if this short story is a preview of things to come in upcoming novels. Could the prize Jaina discovered at the ruins be worth anything to the Jedi? Will it uncover more about the history of their people or reveal more mysteries?
